After two years of Merry Liftmas, we're excited to announce its return for 2026! Below, you'll find all the details you'll need about the event. So make sure to save the date!

Merry Liftmas will be held on Saturday, December 5th from 1-5pm.

For those who aren’t familiar with out Merry Liftmas Powerlifting Meet, you will have three attempts at each lift of your 1-rep max. The three lifts will be Squat, Bench Press and Deadlift to end the event.

Performed in this order:

  1. Squat (1pm)
  2. Bench Press (2.30pm)
  3. Deadlift (4pm)

Each of your successful heaviest lifts for each movement will be added together to give you a total weight. Coaches will be on hand to assist with warm-ups, organise the lifting order, provide spotting for your attempts. And most importantly, lots of motivation.

Following on from Merry Liftmas 2025 , we’re keen to build on the success and smash even more personal bests this year! Festive snacks and drinks will be available to fuel your lifts. Also, cheesy Christmas music of course.

To register for the day please complete the sign-up sheet in the gym. And for those not participating, everyone is welcome to come and show their support!

Weight Loss Medication: Why Maintaining Muscle Matters

When it comes to weight loss, it's easy to focus solely on the number on the scales, but this shouldn't be your only concern. It's important to understand where the weight you're losing is coming from, especially if you're currently taking, or considering, a course of GLP-1 receptor agonists (Ozempic, Mounjaro, Zepbound or Wegovy) also known as weight loss medication. Before starting any weight loss medication, I would always advise speaking to your GP or healthcare professional, particularly if you have any underlying health concerns or would like to discuss whether this type of treatment is appropriate for you.
