Why Knee Sleeves Might Be The Missing Part In Your Training

Knee sleeves are something we recommend all clients purchase to help progressing in strength training. Therefore, it's important to take a deeper dive into why that is.

Some of the Main Benefits

1

Warmth

Due to the compressive nature of knee sleeves it traps heat keeping the joint warm, aiding in muscles and tendons staying flexible and reducing strain, allowing to reduce injury risk whilst going for PB’s.

2

Swelling Control

Blood flow is increased when squeezing the joint, therefore, allowing for better circulation and preventing fluid build up. This could also be a big help when training through injuries.

3

Proprioception

Being able to have a heightened awareness of how the joint is moving will encourage better form and stability during heavy compound lifts. It has also been shown that proprioception is improved with knee movement and gait.

4

Comfort

Mild physical support without reducing range of movement again will allow for you to be more comfortable during heavy compound lifts [1].

What Else is There to Consider?

Mentally, knee sleeves also have a huge impact, adding confidence when attempting heavy lifts can be the difference between success and failure. However, also not becoming so over-reliant where a lifter should feel unsafe without them. As it’s a supportive piece of equipment, it should enhance training, and not a mental crutch.

Knee sleeves can also mask underlying issues, for example, poor movement mechanics, mobility restrictions or muscular imbalances. These are things that can be easily addressed and worked on, with the addition of knee sleeves being that nit of extra help.

Ultimately, these are an excellent accessory to purchase when performing strength training as listed above. If you have excellent form but just not quite progressing as you want in the gym, knee sleeves might be the missing part in your training.
